A Year Out by Jenny Richardson at University Hospital Waterford

Artist Jenny Richardson’s moving exhibition, A Year Out, is currently on display at University Hospital Waterford. Inspired by her early childhood in 1950s Libya, A Year Out is presented as part of Imagine Arts Festival 2017 and will be on view at UHW until Friday 8 December.

At the age of four, Jenny Richardson contracted polio while living in Tripoli and was sent to a hospital in Edinburgh where she remained for a year. A Year Out features paintings from her life in Tripoli before her illness, her time in hospital away from her family and her recovery. The exhibition also includes beautifully illustrated letters from her father during her year in hospital. A book which accompanies the exhibition is available to purchase from Waterford Healing Arts Trust for €20.
