St. James’s Hospital (SJH) is seeking expressions of interest from professional artists with experience in the area of creating permanent artworks, whose practice is also informed by engaging with communities. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 8 January 2018 at 12pm. 

The brief is to create a site-specific interactive permanent artwork for the main foyer of SJH, Dublin to represent the Cancer Genetics Art Exhibit Project in commemorating the contribution of SJH to the discovery of the BRCA2 gene. Further information is included in the Artist Brief.

The total anticipated budget for the project is €60,000. Please note that this project is subject to funding approval.

Artist Brief and Application Form: Stage 1 Project Brief & Application

The selection process will take the form of a two-stage open competition. It is open to all interested professional artists at any stage of their career or experience. Selection will be based on the information supplied and how that establishes the competence of the artists to carry out this commission. No designs or detailed proposals are required at Stage 1.

Artists are invited to express their interest in being considered for this project at the first stage of this commission. Artists may do this by completing the application form and submitting a CV and images / details of recent relevant works / projects.

From the completed Stage 1 applications, a shortlist of artists will be selected by panel jury. Stage 2 short-listed artists will be paid a concept and maquette development fee of €250 to work on a detailed proposal for final selection. A Stage 2 brief will be available to shortlisted artists and a site visit is an expected component of this stage.

The Selection Panel will consist of two to three members of the Public Art Working Group and two professional artists and will be chaired by the Curator / Project Manager.

It is anticipated that the project will be of nine months duration to commence during Spring 2018 (subject to funding approval) and reach completion by December 2018.
