LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, with support from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Arts Office, has announced an artist’s commission focusing on families that avail of LauraLynn’s services.
Moments that Matter is a commission designed to be responsive to families identified by LauraLynn. The aim is to show the beauty and connection within everyday moments in the lives of the families that attend LauraLynn’s Children’s Hospice Service.
Professional artists/companies are sought that work in one or more of the following areas: Visual Art, Dance, Theatre, Music, Opera, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, Spoken Word, Creative Writing, Circus Arts or Performance Art.
LauraLynn is particularly interested in practitioners who work in a collaborative manner, are flexible in their approach and responsive to the needs of those involved.
The brief for this commission is to engage with families identified by LauraLynn and to explore the quotation ‘We do not remember days, we remember moments’ (Cesare Pavese), in the context of families living with a child with a life-limiting illness. Exploration of the artform with the families using this theme is central to this commission.
The process of working with the families is of the upmost important and their experience is the central focus of this commission, not a final or finished ‘piece’. It is envisaged that an outcome from the commission will come entirely through this collaboration with the families. LauraLynn will support the artist/s in the creation of this work to ensure that the families can navigate any issues that may arise.
Budget
The commission fee is €10,000 to include all expenses (VAT inclusive).
