Creative Exchanges is designed for Activity Co-ordinators working with older people in residential or day care settings. It is also suitable for those with an arts background interested in engaging with older people in a care setting.

An initiative of the Age & Opportunity Engage Programme, the spring 2025 course will take place on Monday 24 and 31 March at Limerick City Gallery of Art.

What to Expect
Creative Exchanges trains participants to plan and facilitate arts activities for older people. It will provide participants with:

  • An understanding of the value of creative activity, particularly in a care setting
  • Practical skills to carry out creative activities with people in residential and day care settings
  • Experience of taking part in arts-based workshops.

The course is designed to provide meaningful opportunities to engage older people in arts activities and adopts a person-centred approach promoted by HIQA’s National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People (2016).

Programme Overview
The spring 2025 programme includes visual arts workshops with artist Caroline Schofield, a reminiscence theatre workshop with actor Gillian McCarthy, a movement workshop with dance artist and chorographer Philippa Donnellan, and sessions on creativity and wellbeing and attitudes to ageing with Brian Dooney from Age & Opportunity.

Course Fees
Creative Exchanges costs €399 per participant. As places are limited, the fee needs to be paid in advance to secure a place. On completion of the programme, a certificate will be provided by Age & Opportunity.
